Traveling to these destinations during their shoulder season in September will reduce costs and crowds.
Nantucket, Massachusetts
From picturesque shorelines to delicious food, the “Gray Lady” is a bucket list destination for a memorable vacation. Its population swells to over 80,000 during its high season (July and August) from its estimated year-round population of 15,000. Many families visit during the off-season to avoid higher costs and crowds, but many restaurants and shops close in October. It’s also important to note that the ferry schedules are significantly reduced during the off-season. Therefore, it is best to go to Nantucket during the “shoulder season” in September. This is the perfect time to visit because the crowds and temperatures begin to drop, but nothing is closed yet. We visited the week after Labor Day, and I believe it is the best time to explore Nantucket. The weather was pleasant and everything was open. Read this guide to plan the perfect trip!
